BIG CAM: THE PULVERIZER John-Cameron C. Blakey
Born in Akron, Ohio, Cam was predominantly raised by his mother and grandmother. From a young age, art, music, and writing were his major interests. Drawing on anything he could find, as well as hearing a broad variety of music as a child, his influences cover everything from classical to blues.
In 1985, Cam and his sister Carman saw the movie “Krush Groove”, and he was inspired immediately. As LL Cool J and EPMD emerged as stars, Cam wrote his raps in secret.
From 1990 to 1994, Cam honed his writing skills and began to submerge his music, writing, and art into HIP HOP culture.
1997 marked the birth of the “Renegade Skwad”, a three man group consisting of two childhood friends. After one album, local radio play, and side projects, Cam went on his own at the end of 1999. Releasing his solo debut “Bedlam” in 2000, he laid the groundwork for his own status as one of the region’s premiere underground lyricists.
Through a series of performances around Ohio, Cam’s following had steadily grown. 2002 brought more shows, features, and a compilation. With his stock rising, Cam released his second effort entitled “Well, Thank You” a collection of performable songs which were more polished than the first album. The LP provided a glimpse of Cam’s growing potential as a marketable, yet uncompromising artist.
2003 was another busy year for Can with the release of his third album “The Unforgiven”, as well as features and producing other artist’s projects.
