MAKING OF A STAR
Dr. Charles Njoku.
CEO Chioma Entertainment Group

Music has undergone a metamorphosis and will continue to do so with advances in technology. Computers have changed everything. One does not have to have talent anymore to be a hit. In future articles, we will explore the many aspects of becoming a success in the entertainment business with emphasis on music.

Our quest for music begins in our mother’s womb. We have been told of the kicks. That’s when we first start practicing the twist, the boogaloo, the break-dance, and other music and dance moves. Our star ability continues during our childhood years beginning in our baby strollers, in front of parents and family while imitating the singing and talking adults. In grade school to high school years, we polish our acts by singing in school to high school plays, in the church choir or in rap battles in street corners. Some of us are fortunate to have parents and family who will guide and encourage us in our pursuit of music greatness. Some of us even pay for our singing, piano, guitar, and horn lessons. Some of us will proceed further to enroll in music school or even pursue music degrees in college and universities. During one of these times, someone will discover the unique talent we possess. Someone will encourage us to pursue music as a career.

Many great artists have been discovered incidentally. Many, too, have had their career path mapped out by family and friends and will lead and guide these acts to stardom, while others struggle.
Succeeding in the music industry, like in other professions, is not a fly-by-night proposition. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, desire, patience and perseverance to succeed.
In a nut shell, you have to pay ayour dues just as the likes of Britney Spears, Nelly, Destiny’s Child, P. Diddy, Aerosmith, Master P. and others did.

Patience and due diligence is very much lacking in today’s artist. Many of us think we are already a star, the moment we lay down our trac on a CDR. To succeed in the music business, one has to have certain elements in place. One has to understand the business of music. You need a management team in place, your production team, your legal team, your accounting team, and you need your business manager. You need to understand music publishing and the job of your record company.

We will discuss each of these topics individually in future issues of Chioma Magazine… so listen up and read on.”
